Cougars Roll East Valley in 7th Grade Basketball

Our 7th grade A team turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to break away from East Valley in boys basketball action. With the score knotted at 22 points going into half time, the Cougars came out firing on all four cylinders. An intense full court press created several steals which turned into easy transition scores. The Cougs outscored the visitors 38-20 in the final two quarters and cruised to a 60-42 win. Jacob Martinez was a deadly force from the outside, ending with 26 points on the night. The lightning quick Andrew Solorio scored 17, while Cameron Morales added 7, and August Pena scored 6. Rounding out the scoring were Sebastian and Willie adding 2 apiece.
In 7th grade B team action, the Cougars took control early and won 36-24. Nick Lopez and Andrew Natali combined for 26 points in the win, while Teddy Leyva and Brandon Diaz had 6 each.

8th Grade Basketball Splits with East Valley

The 8th grade A team lost against East Valley last night 31 to 35. The team fought hard and never gave up against a tough opponent. Every player contributed with either tough defense, aggressive rebounding, or good passing. The team has continued to improve every game and has kept a positive mindset.

A balanced attack gave the Jefferson 8th Grade B basketball team a 35-25 victory over East Valley yesterday. Angel Montanez and AJ Hernandez shared scoring honors, each contributing 7 points for the Cougars. Angel also added 4 steals and 4 rebounds, respectively. Titus Mitchell led the team in rebounds with 7, followed by Ezra Hernandez with 5. Also scoring were Jamie Hernandez, Ezra, Liam Gigray and Titus each contributing four points. The win improved the team's overall record to 5-2 on the season.

8th Graders Split with Sage on Homecourt

The 8th Grade B Basketball Team soundly beat Sage Valley yesterday 32 to 16, improving their overall record to 3-2. Jamie was high point for the night, scoring with 8 followed by Josh Sorg with 7. Josh Aten and Kai Curtis led the Cougs with 6 rebounds each, and Ezra Hernandez pulled down four, respectively. Leading in the steals department were Titus Mitchell and Angel Montanez with 3 each. JD Smith tallied 3 assists in the win. The team will travel to Mountain Home today for their third game this week.

Boys Basketball Team Photos Scheduled

Boys basketball players will have team and individual photos taken after school on Friday, February 24th in the gym. Players will need to bring the uniforms. If interested in ordering photos, players will also need to complete and return their picture ordering form, which will be available from their respective coach.

Penny War Raises $375 for Great Causes!

The final totals are in and the winner is....ALL OF YOU! As a school we raised a grand total of $375.84 that will be donated to the five causes we've supported this week: Autism, Alzheimer's, PTSD, Diabetes, and Cancer. Great job Cougars, this total is triple what we had last year!

The final totals for grade levels, once all the sabotaging was over and pennies had been counted ended as follows.
3rd place - 8th grade with a negative balance of 23.02
2nd place - 6th grade despite a valiant run on the last day they still remained in the negative 12.29
1st place - 7th grade who finally dipped into the negative but with the smallest negative number of the three grades with a total of negative 2.59.

7th Graders Rock Sage Valley in Boys' Basketball!

Our 7th Grade A team beat Sage last night with the score of 48-34. Everyone contributed to the win and it was a total team effort.

7th B team Beat Sage Valley 39-13. Nick Lopez and Andrew Natali had 10 points each. Clay Watson had 5 and Xavier Hernandez with 4.
