Steps to success while creating a collage!

we're going to start our selfie collages let's look at some images to give inspiration the definition of collage is a piece of art made by sticking various materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric onto a vacuum such as paper many of you are dreading this moment but don't freak out about it will work step by step with each other you need to draw yourself in order to start we are going to take a piece of paper and a pencil is my favorite kind and eraser and it's going to be kind of big but what I want you to do is draw with a pencil it's very important no pads we can erase our mistakes we are going to draw very simple outlines so don't freak out or not going to put super details on there using these outlines we are going to fill it up so I just did Basic clothing lines to see where I was going what's that's done then we will spread out our materials and see what we have to use before I start gluing I want to kind of play around I'm going to look at my design and what I might want to do first I think working with the background is easier cuz you could always add layers I have these flowers here that I cut out of magazine I'm going to play around with him and see how I like them in the background and just work with them for a little bit okay so I looked at my colors and I want to play brain I think it might look good in the background and it's kind of fun to play around with it and see if it's something that actually works out now these are the materials that I have collected from bear magazines different craft supplies I have at home those kind of things I also might want to change the shape of something make it smaller make it a different type of shape you name it so here I'm just going to play around with it you know I might want to use these reptile scales kind of put it around the design of my head and I can always add more where is on top of it to make the hair I have this tissue paper that has a spun mines but I might want to tear it in order to go around the head a little bit more or add some texture or some little bit of time in it it's always fun so I also scrounged at home and found this big plant that I never used so I decided to try one of it you have to press it down with a glue in order for it to dry but I also had some scrap of paper and I wanted to see if I can have wanted that it is a darker green it just is hard to tell I also found these crafting stickers that might be fun to use over the top of the layers oh my gosh I love stickers anyway I'm at home I also found some felt pieces that I had leftover from a craft project those are always come in handy cuz they're easy to cut you can maneuver a man anyway I want it's kind of fun to do that if I don't like my design I can always take everything off of here and start fresh with something else so now we're to the part where it's kind of my favorite on collages love adding words or letters it's just a fun thing but it's not for everybody so I'm going to look at the outline of my head and I have these pre torn old dictionary pages that I'm going to use and I was going to kind of arrange them in different ways around the design and I don't want them to be all facing the same way so if you notice here and here they are different directions and I just kind of like the what makes around the design so I'm taking this and I'm tearing it because I might want it to go into a smaller area around my design and I'm making sure to go to different angles just because I like that texture I have a dictionary page here and I like to cut or tear inside the word area I just don't like all that empty white space I just looks better to me and rubber outer layers on top of the newspaper so for me I think I'm going to do a whole entire layer of the dictionary pages on the bottom add on top of it and so I want to cover all of it and I think it might be fun to actually put those flowers on top see the contrast between the flower and the paper I just really like how it stands out and I think it might be cool at this point I'm ready to use glue so here's what we're going to do once I'm ready I am going to have a popsicle stick at the table and our tub of glue and I'm going to use it to apply my newspaper pieces to my paper for my bottom layer when I do that I'm going to stick the popsicle stick in and not put too much on so I want to scrape the sides just to get a little bit cuz you really don't need a whole lot of glue on there skipping ahead what I'm doing is just putting a little layer on there and laying down and smoothing it out on top of my background remember you don't want to get too much glue it just drips and oozes everywhere so if you do that on accident of course you want to scrape the sides off as best as you can and get a little messy and use your Popsicle stick as well do the best you can to scrape it there still be a little left which is good and then go ahead and apply it on to your back remember to smooth it down so that it is so you'll see my hands are messy all you have to do is rub the glue off that's the beauty of Elmer's Glue anyway so you're going to do that for the whole background and you can keep adding to it it is so so important to let your work dry especially in between later so you don't want it to be goofy and messy and just a big hot mess so well let it dry especially baby overnight we might consider afterwards adding a couple embellishments so if you have anything special at home like ribbons buttons jewels and thing like that. might want to use you are more than welcome to bring it and we'll see what we have in the classroom I'm not quite sure on that yet another thing to consider is once everything is dry you are always welcome to try drawing or painting over the top speed mindful of any wet glucose we don't want to do that it would be a disaster but this is a great way to add detail so that's the end of it here are some more images to kind of get some inspiration from and we'll get started on creating or backgrounds first and then we'll move on to reading our face I just had to throw in the Honey Boo Boo do you see the little doll head for her hand that is just amazing to me the more you look at the picture the more you see it's pretty crazy the one on the right is just beautiful and I love the technique that they used with the text wait wait I almost forgot don't forget the art shows coming up Monday April 16th is the last day to turn in anything for the art show and I would love to see what you created at home or at school and have it an art show so everybody can see
